GRP Senior and U23 rowers head to Princeton for 2026 SSO and U23 Trials

How are you celebrating the 4th? GRP rowers are headed to Princeton this weekend to compete in the Summer Speed Order (SSO) and U23 Trials, July 3rd to 5th. The group includes 30 athletes and coaches.

Senior athletes will race in the Summer Speed Order for a chance to earn an invitation to 2026 World Championships Selection Camp. U23 athletes will compete in Trials with the goal of winning their event and meeting the Competitive Standard Time (CST), securing a spot on the U23 U.S. National Team in the 1x or 2- for the World Championships in Duisburg, Germany, July 23–26.

Hot weather and summer storms are expected along the East Coast this weekend, with temperatures forecasted to exceed 100°F on multiple days. Due to the extreme heat, racing will begin at 7:00 a.m. each day, and there will be no afternoon race sessions.

Friday morning opens racing with time trials. There are 29 entries in the men’s single (M1x) and 38 entries in the women’s single (W1x), with the top 18 boats advancing to Saturday morning’s semifinals. With 10 entries in the men’s pair (M2-), crews will race for semifinal seedings. The women’s pairs will use the time trial for lane assignments in Sunday’s A final, as there are only six entries.

U23 boats will also race time trials on Friday to earn spots in Sunday morning’s A finals. The U23 men’s single (BM1x) has 15 entries, the U23 women’s single (BW1x) has 11 entries, the U23 men’s pair (BM2-) has 8 entries, and the U23 women’s pair (BW2-) has 3 entries.
