GRP Biathlon: Nove Mesto World Cup
GRPer Margie Freed competed at last weekend’s biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.
The weekend started with a short individual competition - a 12.5k competition for the women with 4 shooting stages, alternating prone and standing, in which each miss adds 45 seconds to a racer’s total time. Margie only had 3 misses out of the 20 total shots, finishing in 31st place (she also had the 31st fastest ski time on the day). 31st is her career best in her World Cup career.
The highlight of the weekend was the USA’s 4th place performance in the mixed relay. They finished just 59 seconds out of 1st and 2 seconds off of the podium. Margie raced the 2nd leg, needing just one spare round for each prone and standing!
“Nove Mesto was a lot like Craftsbury,” Margie said, “and so I think gave me good energy! I was able to get off the race course one day and crust ski the fields, reminding of the Vermont landscape. The racing went really well for the whole team, and brought a lot of excitement to finish out the second trimester of the season. My highlight was the mixed relay, it was so exciting to watch our team crush it after doing well myself in the second leg. Wahoo!”
