GRP Row: ERA Regatta Recap

The GRP U23 squad and five of our senior athletes headed up to Montreal to partake in the ERA regatta July 12-13. Many of the athletes doubled and tripled up in different boat classes.

The turnout from both Canada and the US was strong with a large amount of boats registered to race. The weekend started off great and we had both some U23s and seniors progress out of the time trial into top semifinals.

We had strong showings from GRPers Paige Wheeler and Catie Castle who went 1st and 2nd in W1x, U23 Cecily Shaber in the W1x and W4x, Manon Field and Paige in the W2x with a top time and Charlotte Wiley, Catie, Paige and Cecily the fastest time in W4x.

Cooper won the M1x with U23er Sam van Adrichem Boogaert placing 3rd. M2x had Cooper with Evan Hankins-Hull with fastest time and U23s Sam and Dan Malecki as 3rd fastest time. In the end as a team effort, the GRP placed 3rd overall in the points trophy which was an impressive result given our smaller team size. Events were cancelled out at the end due to thunderstorms but all of our athletes got to race, some for the first time ever, and we will take what we learned to Canadian Henley for racing next week (August 3-10)
