GRP Snow: Margie Freed Olympics Recap

Margie Freed made her Olympic debut Sunday in the Biathlon Mixed Relay 4x6k. Margie was the fourth leg of the relay and finished third for her section. The U.S.A team relay finished 14th overall about 3.5 minutes behind the gold medal finishers, France.

Margie’s individual start to the Olympics took place Wednesday morning in the Women’s 15k Individual. The race was electric and Margie had her best finish, along with her best shooting to date. Margie was the top finisher for the U.S. finishing 21st out of 90. It was a warmer day, around 40 degrees and Margie paired exceptionally quick skiing with shooting accuracy. There were 4 rounds of shooting and Margie only missed one shot finishing with 19/20. Only three people in the field did not miss a shot. Margie was bib 49 and went off behind the gold medal finisher from France, Julia Simon. France took gold and silver and Bulgaria took the bronze.

“I have a lot of friends and family here who I know would support me no matter what, but I wanted to give them a show.”

Saturday racing was exciting with the top 60 advancing to the individual pursuit on Sunday. The race was a 7.5k sprint shooting once on standing and once on prone. Margie was off to a strong start and shot clean on the prone but had a bit of a harder time during the standing and missed 3. She finished 66th out of 91.

Margie’s last olympic race was the women’s 4 x 6k relay on Wednesday morning. Margie was the third leg of the relay. France had a dominant performance and took home the gold. The U.S. placed 18th.
