The Tuxedo 1886 Regatta is a premier fall rowing race on Tuxedo Lake in Tuxedo Park, New York. This will be the fourth year the regatta has been held and will take place this Sunday, October 12th. The race is a head-to-head knock out style format with the winner receiving a $4,000 cash prize, the second place finisher $2,000, and each semifinalist $500. The race is 1,886 meters long to honor the founding year of the regatta.

The regatta was started in 2022 by Phil Tavani, Joe Ehrlich, and Chris Mahan, who with the help of Michael Martinov (a previous national team coach), recruited Olympic and National team rowers to compete. The regatta is invite only. The following seven GRP athletes will be competing this weekend:

  • Caleb Nollenberger

  • Sophie Calabrese

  • Paige Wheeler

  • Grace Joyce

  • Evan Hankins-Hull

  • Catie Castle

  • Cooper Tuckerman

This will be the first time racing The Tuxedo 1886 regatta for all GRP athletes except Sophie Calabrese who competed in the race last year along with GRP athlete Sera Busse. Sophie and Grace are racing after a quick turn around from World Championships. Cooper will head into the weekend of racing after this past weekend of successful racing winning the Open 1x at the HOTO and the becoming the men’s winner of the Lottie McAlice Championship.

The weekend will conclude with a gala on Sunday night to celebrate the athletes and rowing. Good luck to our GRP rowers competing!
