2025 HOCR and Tuxedo Racing Recap
Sera Busse and Sophie Calabrese, 2025 HOCR Women’s Championship Double Winners.
GRP rowers have been busying with fall head racing in the Northeast. Two weeks ago, rowers battled tough conditions on Sunday with strong headwinds and challenging water at the Tuxedo 1886 Regatta. The race was 1886 meters long and rowers raced head to head in a single elimination bracket. Cooper Tuckerman advanced to the semi-finals and Paige Wheeler won the regatta after winning all three races on Sunday. The first place winner was awarded $4,000 and each semi-finalist $500.
This past weekend GRP rowers competed at the world’s largest 3-day regatta. Over 11,000 athletes competed over the weekend in Boston. The Head of the Charles is a challenging race with 6 bridges and many turns. Perhaps the only thing more daunting than the navigation is the depth of the competitive field. With 4 singles in each Championship Single event and 3 doubles in the Women’s Championship Double Event, the GRP turned the results sheets green with more entries in the Champ sculling events than any other club.
Sophie Calabrese and Sera Busse told home gold in the Women’s Championship Double. Sue Holderness and Anna Jensen placed 10th and Natalie Hoefer and Grace Donabedian finished 15th.
In the Men’s Championship Single, Cooper Tuckerman had an impressive race, placing fourth in a very competitive field. Evan Hankins-Hull finished 13th, Caleb Nollenberger 18th, and Jesse Ryno 20th.
Grace Joyce came away with a fourth place finish after a fantastic race in the Women’s Championship Single. Paige Wheeler finished 8th, Charlotte Wiley 12th, and Catie Castle 15th.

In addition to the GRP entries in the championship sculling events, GRP rowers saw success in other categories as well. In the alumni race, Sophie Calabrese won gold with Texas and Kai Hoite won gold with Brown. On Sunday, Anna Jensen won the Championship 8+ race with the U.S. National team. Sue Holderness and Quinn Woods won gold in a mixed 8+ with Team Susan in the Directors Cup.
GRP will head to Saratoga on Friday to race in the Head of the Fish on Saturday, October 25th.
